4. Foods that have hidden sugars

This is already a well-known fact, but the foods that contain lots of sugar are among the worst foods possible. Excess sugar for seniors means more stress on the liver and pancreas. In the end, this increases blood sugar and triglyceride levels and may result in fatty liver disease.

But this is not the only risk. Cardiovascular disease and diabetes are also on the list, and as we age, the risk is even higher. After 50, it’s a time when we need to get calories that are nutrient-dense, and since sugar means empty calories, this is what makes sugary treats some of the worst foods for seniors.

Try to check all the labels and see if there are any hidden sugars. But never eliminate fruits from your diet. Yes, they have sugars, but not as much as various treats, and they also have numerous benefits for your health.

So, if you crave something sweet, go with the fruits. Maybe a smoothie or simply eat them raw. Fruits are amazing because they are packed with vitamins and offer you the fiber you need.
