1. Grain bowls
One of my favorite things to eat when it’s dinner time is a grain bowl. My partner likes them too, and I’m happy that I can quickly put some healthy and tasty ingredients in a bowl, mix them together, and have dinner ready in less than 15 minutes.
While I must say that both my significant other and I love gluten, we try to stay away from it as much as possible because it makes us bloated and gassy, and that’s undoubtedly not a romantic way to end the night.
So when I was thinking about delicious and simple dinner ideas that were easy to make and also enjoyable, I’ve come across healthy and complex carbs, such as brown rice and quinoa. These will fuel your body with energy, make you feel satisfied, and make your tummy very happy!
However, if you don’t mind including gluten in your diet, you could use any grain you want, such as barley, farro, and millet. The reason why grains are the main ingredient in this meal is that they provide an excellent source of magnesium and fiber, and these two amazing nutrients are linked to a lower risk of several health issues, such as heart disease, colon cancer, and type 2 diabetes.
What’s great about these delicious and simple dinner ideas is that you can mix and match different ingredients based on what you want and have. Just follow this rule: you must include protein, greens, fiber, fat, and carbs.
For example, you could combine raw or cooked veggies, a grain source depending on your preferences, hard-boiled eggs, salmon, grilled shrimp, chicken, homemade dressing, lemon juice or olive oil, chickpeas, roasted broccoli, a sprinkle of nuts and seeds, avocado—everything that makes your mouth water.
