Cravings for Sweets
If you’re craving sweets, you may be addicted to the brain-boosting benefits of sugar. According to healthcare experts, sugar targets the mesocorticolimbic pathway, the brain’s pleasure center, causing a spike in dopamine, the so-called “happy hormone”.
This neuronal pathway plays a major role in the food choices we make, including affecting cravings for sweets. In other words, eating too much sugar boosts dopamine, and the dopamine boost itself can increase cravings for sugar, which leads to a vicious cycle.
