Baked potatoes
The microwave is a fantastic place to steam a yummy baked potato! These fiber-rich complex carbs make the perfect addition to any meal and only take about 5 to 10 minutes to cook in your microwave.
Wash your potatoes well, then prick them with a fork a few times…make sure you don’t forget this step! Add the potato to a microwave-safe plate, then cook on high for 5 minutes. Turn it over, and cook this microwave-friendly dish for another 5 minutes or until soft.
You can cook regular potatoes or even those vitamin A-rich sweet potatoes in the microwave. You can even find bagged steamable baked potatoes in some grocery stores for easier prep.
Corn on the cob
Corn on the cob is a summer staple in many family homes. And this is particularly true when it’s cooked in the microwave. This way, the kitchen remains nice and cool and you’ve got yourself a microwave-friendly dish.
Simply place stripped corn on a large platter or dish to hold the corn you want to cook. Scatter each ear with two tablespoons of water. Cover with wax paper or plastic wrap, cutting a few holes in it, and cook your corn on high for 2 to 2 and a half minutes per ear.
