4. “Healthy” Crackers, Chips, and Pretzels
In most cases, so-called “healthy” chips contain high amounts of processed vegetable oil, including sunflower and safflower oils. Crackers, chips, pretzels, etc., are also high in empty carbs/starches and sodium.
Some of these ultra-processed foods may also contain trans fats like partially hydrogenated oils, which have been associated with many health problems.
Nowadays, it’s common to find chips in grocery stores and supermarkets made from nuts, seeds, beans, sweet potatoes, and vegetables. They may be tasty, but they usually contain synthetic additives, GMOs, are high in calories, and may affect your gut health.
What to do instead: If you want to accelerate your metabolism, remove empty sources of calories and choose instead mixed nuts, apple slices with peanut butter, dark chocolate, or protein smoothie.
