5. Granola
This “healthy food” has long been associated with good health, but it’s really been a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Most of the popular granola brands found in supermarkets have many issues, mostly because they are very high in sugar, processed grains, and calories.
For instance, a half cup of granola — the equivalent of one serving — contains more than 250 calories. Plus, it’s very unlikely to leave you satisfied for long or feeling full.
One of the most surprising things about granola is that the honey used in it is highly processed and may also be the main cause of weight gain. The combination of processed honey, gluten, and phytic acid is what makes this treat bad for your diet goals and metabolism.
What to do instead: Try homemade granola instead. Here’s one option that doesn’t contain any grains at all: soak cashews, pecans, chia seeds, and pecans in water for 8 hours, and then leave them for a day on a paper towel. Next, mix these ingredients with coconut flakes, raisins, raw local honey, sea salt, and cinnamon. Place the ingredients in the oven or dehydrator, and that’s it! You have a metabolism-boosting breakfast or snack.
