Processed and red meats
Let’s be honest: processed meats cannot be good for our health, no matter what angle we take when we look at them. Foods like bacon, deli meats, and hot dogs may have ended up being staples in American cuisine, but they are not actually healthy for us, no matter how tasty they are. They are high in nitrites and contain a lot of salt, which makes them not only raise your risk of type 2 diabetes but also put you at risk of developing heart disease!
And the bad news does not stop there. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition did some research and discovered that people who eat around three ounces of red meat on a daily basis end up increasing their chances of developing diabetes by around 19%. When they looked at those who are also eating processed meats on a daily basis (around or less than three ounces per day), the risk increased and went over 50%! Do yourself a favor and eat these types of meats in moderation.
A lot of Americans do not even know that they may be prediabetic. A study has shown that one in three Americans is, and if you are not aware, they could end up developing diabetes because they do not know to be careful and minimize their chances. To make sure that you are not one of them, schedule an appointment with your primary care provider for your yearly check-up, and make sure you never forget to do it!
Prevention is always the key and when it comes to diabetes, the risk is not worth it!
