Increased risk: Processed carbohydrates
This one may end up hurting the most, since a lot of our favorite snacks or foods may end up being included on this list, which also raises the risks when it comes to developing diabetes. The main foods that contain a lot of processed carbohydrates are the ones that contain a lot of white sugar (and we already discussed why it isn’t the best for you), white flour, and even white rice.
Foods or snacks that contain a lot of these ingredients are actually low in fiber, vitamins, bran, and minerals, and they can end up doing you more harm than good. Some of the first contenders when it comes to foods that you should consider limiting are muffins, cakes, crackers, bread, and pasta, which contain these ingredients. Studies have shown that those who excessively eat foods with heavily processed carbs increase their risk of getting diabetes by 21%!
Do not get us wrong; this does not mean that you should never eat these foods or completely cut out these ingredients. It just means that you should err on the side of caution and eat them moderately, making sure you are not doing any excesses when it comes to them. If you are eating healthily and in moderation, with a lot of fruits and vegetables, eating white bread or rice is not going to do you any harm.
