5 Foods You Should NEVER Eat During Menopause

Fast food

Are you in a hurry? If so, drive-through restaurants might prove to be super convenient, but this doesn’t mean that they don’t serve up a huge amount of fat. Fast foods could increase the risk of heart disease, a terrible condition that women are already at risk of after passing through menopause.

These foods are simply bad for you, as they promote weight gain, which might exacerbate menopause symptoms, too. If you want a better alternative to having healthy foods on hand, you can always freeze leftovers at home or even pack a lunch.

If you need to have something to eat on the go, just skip the cheeseburger and go for something healthier, like a grilled chicken sandwich on a whole-grain slice of bread with some fresh lettuce and sliced tomato.

Alcohol

We don’t say that you should swear off any kind of alcohol, whether it’s your favorite cocktail or a good wine, but it’s highly important to keep it as moderate as possible. Moderate drinking for women is usually within well-defined parameters: one drink per day or even less.

Why? Well, it seems that women who have two to five drinks a day have an increased risk of breast cancer compared to those who don’t drink anything. Also, heavy drinking might raise the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Some women even admitted that alcohol consumption makes them prone to hot flashes. So if you’re drinking alcohol regularly, make sure you listen to your body.
