Irritability
If you’re feeling irritable, moody, or on edge, stress may not be the only cause — it could be an indication that you’re eating too much sugar.
A 2020 study published in the journal Medical Hypotheses found that consuming added sugars can worsen mood, promote inflammation, and lead to symptoms of depression.
A high-sugar snack or meal without fat and protein quickly increases your blood sugar, but as your body struggles to process all of it, your energy levels drop, making you feel irritable and sluggish.
Next time when you’re feeling off, think about what you’ve eaten in the last two hours. For instance, if you start to feel moody and irritable an hour after you had a snack or if this happens at the same time every day, too much sugar could be to blame.
