5. Honey
A study that analyzed 19 different types of honey from South America and Europe concluded that all contained plastic fibers. You probably didn’t expect to see honey on the list of foods that contain plastic. The amount of microplastic in this sweet ingredient varied from 45 to 600 particles per 2.2 pounds.
While we still have no evidence showing that consuming honey that has been packaged in plastic is harmful to human health, there are a few concerns that it could be. Similar to other foods that contain plastic on this list, when honey is mixed with plastic, leachable microplastic will leach from it.
The best thing you can do is choose to buy organic honey that is packaged in glass.
