6. Fish and seafood

The oceans are some of the areas that are most affected by pollution and microplastics. Sometimes the plastic is very noticeable, with plastic bags, straws, and bottles either floating or even suffocating ocean wildlife. But there’s also the microscopic plastic, which is invisible to the naked eye.

Therefore, it’s no surprise that fish and seafood are also included in the list of foods that contain plastic.

In fact, this plastic has been found in just about every ocean creature, from fish to seafood. Fish have been discovered to mistake plastic for food, so they accidentally eat it.

Although you don’t ingest most of the plastic particles found in fish, as the gut and stomach of fish aren’t eaten, there are still traces throughout the whole sea creature. So, yes, fish makes the list of foods that contain plastic.

By the way, if you want to try some new fish recipes, this book has plenty of inspiration!

  1. Microplastics are everywhere. Reducing our daily consumption is likely futile, you will ingest microplastics. Every breath you take, every bite of food, and everything you drink has microplastics. Your reusable plastic water bottle sheds microplastics. That said, plastics are a vital part of our modern life. There are no alternatives right now. Without plastics healthcare would be very different. Single use disposable everything provides the best barrier to pathogens. Just try to live a day in our world without plastics.

  2. I’ve read recently that close to 90% of cans are no longer lined with BPA. Of course other plastic-related products are used.

Also, not all filters will remove microplastics.

  3. This is one of the most ignorant articles I’ve read in some time. Mastery of buzzwords without ANY actual knowledge is a sad and dangerous thing.

  4. What good is it to show how dangerous and truly unhealthy are food products are if low income and average income status people cannot afford the alternative, which is of course organic and whole foods which are beyond our pay grades??? PLEASE RESPOND!
