7. Plastic bottles

Most bottled water can be found in disposable plastic bottles. Similar to foods that contain plastic, these bottles leach microplastic and other dangerous chemicals into the water. What most people don’t know is that bottled water is frequently sitting in those bottles for months. Moreover, the plastic bottle is filled just after it’s created and is off-gassing chemicals.

But that’s not all. A plastic bottle that sits in direct sunlight deposits even more microplastics. Studies have shown that bottled water contains twice the amount of plastic fiber as tap water—as many as 10,000 plastic pieces per 0.2 gallons.

If you have to buy bottled water, aim for a brand that has glass bottles. Although even with a glass water bottle there may be plastic in the lid, it will be significantly less than in the case of a plastic bottle.

  1. Microplastics are everywhere. Reducing our daily consumption is likely futile, you will ingest microplastics. Every breath you take, every bite of food, and everything you drink has microplastics. Your reusable plastic water bottle sheds microplastics. That said, plastics are a vital part of our modern life. There are no alternatives right now. Without plastics healthcare would be very different. Single use disposable everything provides the best barrier to pathogens. Just try to live a day in our world without plastics.

  2. I’ve read recently that close to 90% of cans are no longer lined with BPA. Of course other plastic-related products are used.

Also, not all filters will remove microplastics.

  3. This is one of the most ignorant articles I’ve read in some time. Mastery of buzzwords without ANY actual knowledge is a sad and dangerous thing.

  4. What good is it to show how dangerous and truly unhealthy are food products are if low income and average income status people cannot afford the alternative, which is of course organic and whole foods which are beyond our pay grades??? PLEASE RESPOND!
