This should go without saying, but you’ll never be able to get crispy foods from a slow cooker. Most people usually make their bacon in the oven, if not in a pan. Take it from us..making bacon-wrapped scallops in your slow cooker will ensure your bacon turns into a slimy mess.
Pasta
If you don’t follow a pasta recipe explicitly written for a slow cooker and respect the timing, it will lose shape, and it turns into wallpaper paste. Like we said with rice, pasta is best stirred into your cooker at the end. Or better yet, baked into something like lasagna.
Our suggestion when slow cooking is to start with a few tried and authentic recipes from a trusted source, and then after you have everything figured out, you can experiment to your heart’s content.
It may sound discouraging to hear about some of the items you shouldn’t be putting in your slow cooker. But there are many other delicious meals you can cook in this “Wonder Pot.”

Wow! I’ve been using dry pinto beans or great northern beans without soaking in my slow cooker for years…sometimes I put a frozen smoked pork hock in before starting it on high…comes out great every time…no worries here (~.~)
