Omega-3 or pastured eggs lower triglycerides
Unfortunately, not all eggs are created equal. The health benefits of eggs depend on how the hens are raised. Eggs from hens raised on pasture or fed omega-3 enriched feeds will have much higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids.
These acids are well-known to lower blood levels of triglycerides, which is a considerable risk factor for heart disease. Research shows that consuming omega-3-enriched eggs is a very effective way to lower blood triglycerides.
An older study showed that consuming just five omega-3-enriched eggs each week for three weeks reduced triglycerides by 16% to 18%. More recently, a study of 20 participants found that eating two omega-3-enriched eggs daily for five weeks reduced triglycerides by 10%.
