How to Lower your risk

Prostate cancer is a severe illness, but according to the Mayo Clinic, early detection is vital. Speak to your doctor about any risk factors and if or when you should be screened. This could sometimes be as early as 40 if you’re considered high-risk.

And while there’s no way to eliminate the risk entirely, if you’re at a higher risk for developing the disease, there are steps you can take to lower your chance. Some include:

  • Getting regular prostate screenings.
  • Maintaining a healthy weight.
  • Eating a nutritious diet.
  • Exercising regularly.
  • Quitting smoking.

When this kind of cancer is diagnosed before it can spread to a few other parts of one’s body, about 97% of people live at least five more years after the diagnosis. So you should always be very mindful of what your prostate is telling you.

It could be something minor, but knowing the tell-tale signs can benefit your health significantly.
