Homemade oatmeal
Who doesn’t love oatmeal? If you’re low on time and have a microwave, you can even buy oatmeal in separate serving packages, and your cancer-fighting breakfast can be ready in minutes. Just remember to pick plain, unsweetened oatmeal because it’s healthier.
And if you feel like you need a little sweetener, add a teaspoon of brown rice syrup or maple syrup. If you prefer milk on your oatmeal, try a splash of non-dairy almond, rice, or soy milk. If you buy oatmeal by the pound, here’s a fantastic recipe to try:
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of water (Or you can try our favorite mix of a cup of water and a cup of 100% apple juice.)
- 1 cup of rolled oats
- A sliver of sea salt
- An apple, sliced into cubes
- Optional: Top your oatmeal with other fresh fruit, like blueberries and/or toasted sunflower seeds. They add a bit of protein to your cancer-fighting breakfast.
Instructions:
- Put the water in a pan on high heat and add the sea salt, oatmeal, and apples. Bring to a boil, turn to low, and simmer uncovered for about 8-10 minutes. You can add more water if needed for your desired consistency at any time during the cooking process.
- Turn off the heat and cover. Serve topped with fresh fruit, if desired.
