6. Onions with potatoes
Although onions and fried potatoes go well together, you shouldn’t keep them together before cooking since the onions will make the potatoes go bad. To keep foods like potatoes and squash fresh, it is preferable to store them in an open-air cloth basket in a cold, dark location.
Just make sure they’re in an item where moisture or humidity can’t build up since this would cause them to soften and go bad more quickly. Store them in a paper bag. However, onions’ best friend is definitely garlic, and you can safely store them together without worrying they will ripen or spoil. Just make sure you put them in an open space with good ventilation.
