#6 Foods That Are High in Saturated Fats
Even if the current study does not conclusively show that saturated fats increase your risk of developing heart disease, there are still plenty of good reasons to keep your intake of saturated fats to a minimum.
These fats, especially low-density lipoprotein (LDL), raise blood cholesterol levels. High levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol ultimately increase the risk of clogged arteries.
Further, Harvard Health Publishing claims that substituting some of those unhealthy saturated fats with polyunsaturated fats from foods like avocado, flaxseeds, and fish may help reduce your chance of developing heart disease.
Simply maintain your daily saturated fat intake below 10% of your total daily calories, rather than eliminating all fat from your diet.
Foods that are high in saturated fats:
- cheese;
- butter;
- coconut oil and palm oil;
- fried foods;
- animal fat (lard, chicken skin).
