#5 Soda and Other Sugary Drinks
The sugar that you’re drinking has the same potential to harm your heart as foods with refined sugar do. In addition, a lot of purportedly “healthy” beverages, like fruit juices, smoothies, and coffee and tea from restaurants, are loaded with added sugar.
In actuality, the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health reports that sugar-sweetened beverages represent the main source of sugar in the American diet.
Because they are high in calories without providing satiety, sweet beverages and sodas can be very bad for your heart health and increase your chance of becoming obese.
The chance of suffering a heart attack, stroke, or death from vascular disease has been directly linked to soda use. Unexpectedly, those who consumed soda of any kind, including regular and diet soda, had increased risk factors for heart disease.
It is advised to limit the following sugary drinks:
- soda;
- fruit juices;
- some sweetened tea beverages;
- smoothies made with a lot of fruits;
- energy drinks;
- sports drinks.
