4. Beans
…How often do you eat beans? They’re a great source of protein and vitamins, especially for people who exclude meat from their diets.
There were a few animal studies that showed that the high fiber content of beans might help protect against colon cancer. Also, research that looked at almost 2,000 people with a history of colorectal cancer found that eating cooked, dried beans were linked to a lower risk of the tumor coming back.
Even though researchers didn’t study the effect of beans on people who are diagnosed with this severe health condition, when colon cancer was induced in rats, they noticed that feeding them either black or navy beans inhibited the growth of cancer cells by as much as 75%.
They still need to do more tests so they can be sure of all the side effects and possibly great results in humans, but until then, you can definitely try to add more beans into your diet. They’re healthy, nutritious, and amazing in tacos!
…What are you eating for the next taco Tuesday?
