To avoid: Processed meats
These are probably some of the foods that you could have guessed would have been on the list. After all, processed meats are rarely recommended by dieticians and nutritionists alike. They may be very easy to use when it comes to building the dream sandwich but eating too many processed meats can raise the level of salt in your diet to an unhealthy level.
It may seem like a good hack to add some more iodine to your diet since these foods are salty, but the sad news is that manufacturers are not required to use iodized salt. The National Institute of Health warns that because they are not required to use it, most of them do not. So instead of eating something that can be beneficial for your thyroid health, you are actually eating a high amount of salt that can end up being detrimental to your general health. What’s more, a high intake of sodium can actually lead to heart disease and high blood pressure, so be careful!
