Great: Brazil nuts
The National Institute of Health is singing the praises of Brazil nuts because they contain one of the most important ingredients when it comes to regulating thyroid hormones. That is indeed selenium, which has also been mentioned in the previous good foods. In fact, studies made and published in the Clinical Endocrinology journal have shown selenium to be a possible key ingredient in helping people who have problems related to the thyroid avoid long-term damage to the gland (this includes Graves’ and Hashimoto’s diseases).
One nut is equivalent to anywhere between 68 and 91 milligrams of selenium.
Despite this, there can be too much of a good thing and this saying applies here! You have to remember not to go overboard with these delicious nuts: the maximum amount of selenium you should have every day is around 400 milligrams. So you shouldn’t make a habit of snacking on Brazil nuts, as you can overdo it and have a high intake of selenium.
You can pinpoint that you got too much selenium intake due to the signature “garlic breath” side effect it produces. Other well-known side effects you can notice include discolored nails and hair loss, and it can get as bad as getting to heart failure!
