#2 Fast Food and Fried Food
Fast food and fried foods are well known to be bad for your heart. A study published in The BMJ in January 2019 found that eating fried meals, more specifically fried fish and chicken increases the chance of heart disease-related death.
This could happen for a number of reasons. First off, when dining out, many folks indulge in fried foods, and many of us have no idea what kind of oil is used to fry our food.
Saturated fat, carbs, and sodium are frequently abundant in fried dishes. It is well documented that the interaction of these ingredients speeds up atherosclerosis (the process by which artery walls become clogged with plaque). This leads to a higher chance of heart attack or stroke.
Fast food also replaces more heart-healthy, nutrient-dense foods like vegetables and even whole grains.
Here are some fried foods that you should avoid:
- fried snacks (tortillas, potato chips);
- deep-fried meats (chicken nuggets);
- fried desserts (fried Oreos, doughnuts);
- deep-fried finger foods (onion rings. mozzarella sticks, french fries).
