Slow Cooker Warning: NEVER Put These 14 Items in Your Trusted Slow Cooker

Alcohol

When you cook with wine or any other alcohol on the stove, the alcohol burns off. Since a slow cooker is completely sealed, the alcohol can’t evaporate out, which means the flavor of your meal will be more aggressive than what you may have wished for.

In fact, this means your dish might taste a bit…boozy. Whether that’s a fail or not is up to you. But we suggest skipping the alcohol altogether or only using a tiny splash. Trust us. That small amount will go a long way!

Skinless Boneless Chicken Breast

All white meat, especially the kind without any skin or bones on it, will start drying out when it’s cooked as long as most crock pot recipes tend to require.

The reason for that is that it’s so lean that it lacks the natural fat that helps cook all those other meats. You’re better off cooking breasts in saucy recipes.

  1. Wow! I’ve been using dry pinto beans or great northern beans without soaking in my slow cooker for years…sometimes I put a frozen smoked pork hock in before starting it on high…comes out great every time…no worries here (~.~)
