Several studies have found that consuming a daily serving of beans or lentils (about 3/4 cup) can help you lower bad cholesterol by 5%. Another study found that those with type 2 diabetes who ate a cup of these superfoods per day as part of a healthy diet significantly reduced hemoglobin A1c levels, a marker of blood sugar control.
Nutrition-wise, canned and dried beans are about the same, although canned beans may have 100 times as much sodium as cooked beans. You can drain and rinse the canned beans to get rid of some of the sodium content, but here’s the thing: by doing this, you will also drain and rinse away some of the nutritional properties.
If you have the inclination and time, use dry beans. This way you will get the full benefits of them.
