Choline is needed for various processes in our bodies. It synthesizes the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, and it’s also a component of cell membranes. A low intake of choline has been associated with heart disease, liver disease, and neurological disorders.
This nutrient may be vital for pregnant women, as well. Research shows that a low choline intake might raise the risk of neural tube defects and decrease cognitive function in babies. And sadly, many people don’t get enough choline.
