Elderberries
You may have been seeing elderberries around lately as supplements or even syrups that are known to help boost your immune system, treat a cold or flu, and even help when you are constipated. However, you should not jump the gun and think that it is okay to eat elderberries when they are unripe. These fruits are actually toxic for you, and you should be careful. And if you see anyone suggesting you get elderberry properties naturally by using or eating elderberry leaves and bark, do not do it! All three are toxic foods you should definitely avoid!
Processed elderberries and ripe ones are not going to do anything to you, but if you happen to eat or see anyone wanting to use unripe fruits, know that they will only serve to make you feel worse. The unripe fruit, along with its bark and leaves, contains both lectin and cyanide, two chemicals that are both toxic and can lead to life-threatening consequences. Consuming any of these toxic foods will lead to vomiting, nausea, and diarrhea!
