3. An apple a day reduces the risk of lung cancer
A recent meta-analysis of 21 cohort studies and 22 control studies by experts from the University of Perugia, Italy, discovered that apples significantly reduce the risk of developing lung cancer.
Due to the presence of the same antioxidant mentioned earlier, quercetin, apples have been found to slow down lung decline and even reduce lung damage caused by smoking. In several studies, having five or more of these fruits per week was shown to strengthen lung function and reduce the risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. This may be due to the high concentration of antioxidants found in apples, including vitamin C and flavonoids.
Apples have also been found to be quite beneficial in reducing the risk of asthma.
