#3 The Colon Cleanse
The people who do this believe that the dietary changes that come along with other types of cleanses are not enough in order to achieve the body’s detox. Colon cleanses are said to be an attempt at getting the body rid of toxins and cleansing the whole digestive tract by making sure there is nothing left. It generally promotes the use of laxatives and other supplements to make bowel movements occur more often.
This type of cleansing attempts to flush the body of toxins through the other end, and people generally have two methods of doing it. Either by the method mentioned before, which includes using supplements and laxatives, or another way, which is called colon hydrotherapy. Colon hydrotherapy, which you may have heard of as “colonic,” is the process of flushing your colon with water in order to remove waste in a manual way.
These two types of colon cleanse do work when it comes to removing built-up waste, but there is nothing that proves that they are beneficial when it comes to removing toxins and improving your general health. If anything, they are actually quite unpleasant to experience, and they can end up being dangerous and deteriorating your health instead of helping.
Specialists insist that you should not be doing colon cleanses, and especially colon hydrotherapy, unless you get one under the instructions and directions of a certified physician. These detoxification methods can cause diarrhea, stomach cramps, and even vomiting, which are just the mild side effects that you can experience if you give them a try.
Other more serious problems can include perforated bowels, electrolyte imbalances, and bacterial infections, which can also lead to heart and kidney problems down the line.
While it may seem like something harmless, attempting this cleanse can have really serious side effects.
If you truly want to make sure that your bowels are clear of waste, make sure that your diet includes plenty of soluble and insoluble fiber. Together, those fibers are going to remove all the undigested food particles that may be left behind, which are the cause of constipation, bloating, and painful excretion.
A modified diet is the way to go, rather than anything drastic like a colon cleanse.
