If you are a mushroom lover, you can immediately tell when the mushrooms aren’t freshly sliced or when restaurants are using the jarred or canned kind, which are generally full of water. While they are not that bad if you are in a pinch, they do not taste as good as the fresh kind. Not to mention that while they are preserved and generally safe to eat, they will be full of exactly that: preservatives. And we doubt that salt is the only thing they use in order to make sure they are shelf-stable when it comes to premade stuff.

Avoid the pre-sliced mushrooms you can find in the fresh isle as well, especially if you are not looking into getting those paper-thin mushrooms that are going to dry out immediately when they are cooked. This is in addition to the fact that you cannot keep them sliced in the refrigerator for prolonged periods of time; they will get a wonky taste. So why get them pre-sliced? A time saver sometimes, but definitely a money waster if you have to throw half away!
