Sweet yogurt

It seems that there’s increasingly more evidence that dairy products might have something to say when it comes to increasing the risk of developing cancer. Some types of cheese, milk, and yogurt are in this category.

According to a 2014 review, eating more dairy might increase the levels of insulin-like growth factor 1, or IGF-1. This growth factor is oftentimes associated with a higher risk of developing prostate cancer, and it might increase the proliferation or even the production of prostate cancer cells.

Candies and other sweets

Sugary foods, but also refined carbs, could indirectly increase the risk of cancer. Some of the most relevant examples include:

  • sugary beverages
  • baked goods
  • white carbs
  • sugary cereals

That’s why eating such a high amount of sugary and starchy foods might lead you to an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes and obesity. A 2020 study showed how both conditions are known to induce the perfect environment for inflammation and oxidative stress.

Ultimately, we’re talking about an increased risk of developing certain types of cancer. According to another 2019 review, type 2 diabetes is linked to an increased risk for ovarian, breast, and endometrial cancer.

A higher intake of sugar and refined carbs could also create higher blood glucose levels, which another 2017 study linked to an increased risk for colorectal cancer. If you even consider limiting the negative health effects of refined carbs, you could swap these foods with other healthier alternatives, like whole-grain bread, pasta, brown rice, and oats.

  1. It makes me VERY Angry thatitdered fish was mentioned!! People can eat completely healthily without contributing to the death and suffering of animals.

    1. If God didn’t want us to eat animals why did he make them out of meat? OR, the non-religious take on this: Why are our teeth made to rip meat apart. The design of our human teeth show that we are omnivores. That means we were designed or evolved to eat meat as well as vegetables. Animals don’t have to suffer. The solution is to kill them as quickly and humanely as possible. The fact is that most food providing meat animals today would never have been born if we humans didn’t eat meat. That is what they are raised for.

  2. Megan. At age 79 and having eaten all the proscribed foods except yogurt in great quantities and remaining incredibly healthy you just sucked the air out of the room.

Wow! This is a problem! I can’t eat any more of my favorites! That is a mental breakdown to stop these foods!

  4. I feel that it’s all about moderation. Eating the occasional sweetened yogurt or side of fries isn’t means to panic to ban them 100 percent.
