#5 If a Restaurant Can’t Change Up a Dish for You, It’s Probably Because It’s Pre-Made

In a sit-down restaurant, skipping the cheese or the bacon shouldn’t be an issue. However, what about leaving the mushrooms out of your vegetable lasagna? The chicken in your minestrone soup, perhaps? Surely fancy restaurants could fulfill such a request?

It’s likely that the dish has already been prepared if your servers declare they can’t substitute. Think about the home preparation for these meals. Both the restaurants and you don’t make single portions.

Preparing some menu items from scratch would require a lot of time and also cause the service to be delayed. As a result, if you notice that some menu items cannot be swapped, it is likely that they have been cooked in advance and reheated at the time of your order.
